A hero named Howe

Leonetti, Mike 1958- (Author). Banning, Greg. (Added Author).

Summary: A fan of the Detroit Red Wings, young Charlie's all-time hero is Gordie Howe and his all-time dream is to play professional hockey. But Charlie soon discovers that he can have more than one hockey hero. Inspired by Howe and a chance meeting with broadcaster Foster Hewitt (famous for exclaiming, "He shoots, he scores!") Charlie considers becoming a play-by-play announcer. In his first attempt, at a game between Detroit and the Montreal Canadiens, Charlie is thrilled when Howe scores an exciting record-breaking goal. Charlie continues to play hockey and follow his hero Gordie Howe, and he also has a new hero - hockey broadcaster Foster Hewitt.
