In this thirteenth title in the popular No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, detective Mma Precious Ramotswe finally meets esteemed author and detective Clovis Anderson. The reader of previous series titles, also available from Recorded Books, Lecat charmingly speaks in her native South African accent. Precious' comforting, soft-spoken voice does not match her girth, one she freely admits is that of a "traditional-sized Botswana woman." The characters talk in an unhurried pace, except for associate Grace Makutsi (now Mrs. Phuti Radiphuti), whose opinions are delivered at breakneck speed. Replete with some domestic concerns, the story finds Grace and Precious tackling various crises and cases, one of which involves the unlawful firing of the director of a local orphanage. Clovis, an American, who Lecat portrays with a broad midwestern accent, joins the ladies to help solve the case. Lecat turns in another delightful performance for both series fans and newcomers.
